Guitar Hero
Ever wonder how volunteering could impact your life – or someone else’s? Following is a personal letter written to our volunteer guitar teacher of Triple Threat (after school) Guitar Class. It came from one of his East Aurora fifth students after attending two semesters of Guitar Class.
“My role model is Peter Hix. Peter teaches guitar, never says something’s hard and owns Hix Music. When I grow up I want to be president or him. Peter teaches guitar which brings me to my next point…
First he teaches guitar to me (corky), Bobby, muck muck the space monkey, Amis & Nick. Nate and Officer Triplet also help me with guitar. They teach me every Wednesday from 3:00 -3:45. Every other day I’m supposed to practice (but I usually practice 2 times a week). Peter is strong minded and does not give up so easy. Which brings me to my next point…
Peter never says something’s hard. Actually in (guitar class) hard is a bad word. We use the word ‘challenging.’ He just does not give up, he just tries and tries until…he gets it right. Peter owns a music store (Hix Music) so he is really good. Which brings me to my final point.
Peter owns a guitar store (with his brother). I have gone with him for two sessions one at the beginning of the (school) year, and one at the end. One time I went to visit him at his store in December.
Peter is one of the coolest persons I’ve ever met, and thanks for everything Peter.”
Sincerely,
Jacob Johnson
