The fall 2009 “Good Character” Bike Ride for 5th grade students was held Saturday, September 19, from 9:00am – 1:00pm. The themed annual event supports East Aurora School District’s “6 Traits of Good Character.” Over 77 students from 7 East Aurora elementary schools biked a 15 mile round trip down Aurora’s scenic Fox River Bike Trail to Batavia Forest Preserve and back. Student bikers were grouped with adult chaperone riders and bikes. Several d.131 school staff and teachers, families and friends joined the fun as bikers, spectators or cheerleaders to support the students. Even Bardwell Elementary School Principal Tom Hartman arrived at the Forest Preserve to share conversation and a hot dog lunch with his students. A BBQ lunch serving over 150, team building games, and recreational activities were all part of the fun for kids featured at the 7.5 mile forest preserve destination.

A total of 127 bikers participated in the 2009 Bike Ride. Students received Triple Threat energy bars at Check-In and spun the prize wheel at the Boost Mobile tent to win a metal dog tag. Pedal and Spoke of North Aurora were on site to perform complimentary pre-event bike tune -ups for student riders. Triple Threat had reconditioned bikes to loan for those in need. The weather was perfect and energy high as kids, adults and volunteers had fun together. At the close of the event, student bikers each received a Boost Mobile hat upon arrival at the return destination. Thanks to volunteers, school staff, Pedal and Spoke, and event sponsors Boost Mobile and PowerBar(R) for all partnering to make the event extra special for Aurora youth.
