Our resident artist and Triple Threat Arts Director, Nate Miller, recently constructed a bike rack for a local business in town. Not just any bike rike — but a bike rack made of bikes!

So now anytime you visit Aurora Paddle and Sports in downtown, you’ll see Nate’s handiwork in the form of a Triple Threat-themed bike rack. So stop by and check it out!

Though he’s just a senior in high school, Kyle’s been a great leader for Triple Threat. He recently wrapped up his second session of leading Triple Threat’s Hip Hop Dance program. What makes this dilligent dancer tick and why does he share his talents with Triple Threat.

Kids go wild.

It wasn’t a celebrity causing the stir at Krug elementary that day. However, the 12 members of the Triple Threat Hip Hop Dance crew were nothing short of celebrity-status as they performed their hearts out in front of about 200 of their peers.

For a few minutes, the dancing dozen held the students’ attention through an array of impressive hip hop dance moves. Like trained professionals, they sharply hit their moves, perfectly in sync.

Yet, they aren’t a famous dance group — not yet anyway. Some 8 weeks before their final performance, the crew was relatively new to hip hop dance. Through the Triple Threat program, they learned to shed their shells and give it their all.

Triple Threat and District 131 hosted its annual soccer tournament May 7, fielding an amazing 22 fifth grade teams in boys and girls divisions. The event, which was held at the soccer fields of Gates Elementary and East Aurora High School, packed more high-paced action than you could shake a stick at. Seriously. A shootout decided which girls team moved on to the finals and the boys championship was also decided by a shootout.

Rollins took the top spot in the girls tournament while Dieterich won it all in the boys division.

Congratulations to all of the teams — you guys rocked it!

But every once in a while, we hang out with grown-ups. Here’s a few photos of a recent visitor to our office, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.

Durbin, one of the highest ranking senators in the nation, was in Aurora early this spring with Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner. Our executive director, Caleb Luper, met briefly to talk with Sen. Durbin about what Triple Threat does and the impact we have on under-resourced youth in Aurora.

Not only has he cemented his place as the top 11-year-old basketball player in the nation, but he’s done so while also balancing an emerging acting career and his schoolwork. Jaylin showcased a little of all his skills with Triple Threat in April at Doolittle Elementary in Chicago.

A group of more than 30 elementary-aged kids watched Jaylin’s now-famous basketball moves and also asked him questions about his personal life.

Jaylin emphasized that he got where he is today through hard work and dedication. He told students to respect their parents, pursue their dreams and put their schoolwork ahead of all else.
